Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

One of those girl power books that you read and think, “wow, I wish I was a kick ass ninja.” Mariko is sent to the imperial palace to marry the prince but her carriage is attacked by the Black Clan on the way. She dresses as a boy to infiltrate the clan to find out why she was targeted and to get revenge. She ends up liking the group and feels more a part of a family than she expects, which causes a lot of inner conflict. And she is falling in love with one of the leaders of the clan. She learns secrets about the past and her family that make her question everything she thought she knew. Her twin brother, Kenshin, is meanwhile looking for her and learning things about himself that he would have rather not. I loved the action and the mystery of what happened in the past and how it is affecting the present. I really loved the Black Clan members despite their bad rap and tough exterior.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and Amazon.
